Frontrunners at close quarters

Giulia Tugnolo - Designer
My name is Gulia Tugnolo, I am 23 years old and was born in the beautiful Maastricht, where, in February 2023 I also completed my studies. I spent four years studying Form/Design at the Maastricht Institute of Arts. My design process starts with the kirigami honeycomb, which has become my signature style. I am inspired by the innovative kirigami shape to create new materials and forms.
The folding technique allows me to play with length, width, surface and depth, transforming a flat surface into a three-dimensional piece of work. It is a joy for me to get creativee with this technique and unleash my ideas. The repetitive pattern of folding gives me both the energy and feeling of tranquility that I crave.
Juul Hagemeier - Designer
A continuous flow of impulses and the complexity of modern life places great pressure on our psyche. With her kinetic installation, Juul Hagemeier offers a counterbalance - forcing the observer to focus, be fascinated and pay deep attention. By allowing ourselves to be enchanted by the rhythm of movement, we give our minds space and a chance to recover from overstimulation. Hagemeier finds inspiration for her meditative installations in natural cycles, such as the rhythm of low and high tide.
Carmen Vollebergh - Jewellery designer
Carmen Vollebergh pushes the bounderies of jewellery design and creates pieces to be treasured. One of her 'Objects Of Obsessions' collections, Enduring, is based on material and its appearance. At face value, one will mostly see the shining glare that refracts from the multifaceted surface. On a deeper layer, the surface leads the way to the complex inner workings. In some cases this surface is being complemented by faceted stone. All pieces are handmade and totally unique.
Mitch van Schijndel - Photographer
Mitch van Schijndel (1995) is an art and portrait photographer who lives and works in Maastricht. He likes to continuously explore the bounderies of photography as an art form.
Deftly navigating the disciplines of commercial and conceptual photography, Mitch attempts to combine the accidental beauty of the everyday with the aesthetic splendour of the visual arts.
